Sustainable Urban Sprawl
As more and more people around the world are being pulled into the middle class, urban sprawl and rapid urbanization are becoming contentious issues. Despite the fact that urbanized societies tend to be better at the distribution of resources and services such as healthcare and potable water, large influxes of settlers can burden local economies, resulting in mass poverty (see slums of India), rapid disease spread, safety hazards (if a fire starts, more lives are at risk by virtue of vicinity), and pollution. Delegates will be tasked with planning for more sustainable methods of urban development, including discussions about the environment, the rights to education, healthcare, and clean drinking water, and wealth inequality.
